Three Films I’m dying to see:

BLOOD ORANGE - I’m Sorry We Lied
film directed by Abteen Bagheri

Night riding motorcycle lover Blood Orange, AKA Devonté Hynes, succumbs to a femme fatale in director Abteen Bagheri’s pop promo for “I’m Sorry We Lied.” First surfacing in UK dance-punk trio Test Icicles, the Essex-raised Hynes moved to New York five years ago and garnered critical acclaim for his alt-folk Lightspeed Champion solo project. While writing and producing for the likes of Florence Welch and Solange Knowles, Hynes pieced together the distinctive retro-infused R&B of Blood Orange, releasing the Coastal Grooves album last summer. “I’m obsessed with the obsession with the 50s and 60s that people had in the 80s,” explains Hynes. “Grease, Billy Idol, Happy Days. It might have been the last time people were cool.” Having worked previously on the video for breakout Harlem rapper ASAP Rocky’s “Peso,” Bagheri shot “I’m Sorry We Lied” over two days along the one-mile Main Street strip of the small desert town of Barstow, California. The young filmmaker drew inspiration from classic 80s noirs like Near Dark, The Wraith, and the Coen Brothers’ debut, Blood Simple, and even used footage of American Ninja 4, which was fortuitously playing on the motel television while filming. “There was something inherently cinematic about it,” says Bagheri on first hearing Hynes’s track. “It was like an updated, demented 80s pop soundtrack, dark with catchy melodies.” nowness.com
“A game, a thought, that through friendship and mutual respect has become true. When I was asked to shoot a short movie for Prada, I did not think that I could really be myself, but the reality is that in the total freedom I was given, I had the opportunity to reunite my favorite group of people on set and just have fun. The chance to dwell on what the fashion world represents nowadays and the fact that it is accompanied by so many stereotypes is fascinating and at the same time a bit upsetting, but you definitely can not ignore it. It’s very refreshing to know that there are still places open to irony and wit and, for sure, Prada is one of them.” Roman Polanski

This weekend I will be directing a new fashion film to be submitted to ASVOFF Milan which will take place from 22nd to 25th June in the Italian fashion capital.
The brief is 1 minute films and the key word / theme is DESTINTY.
Nervous and excited, I can not wait to get my hands on a proper shooting again so that my imagination turns into reality. And to share that with you all of course.
Wish me luck.

‘65th Festival de Cannes’ (in the uber glamorous Côte d’Azur in France, that wonderful country which invented CINEMA) starts today 16th May until 27th and I am very excited to start seeing the red carpet of course but mostly the films that have been selected this year. From the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section of the Offictial Competition I can’t wait to see the new film of Canadian director Xavier Dolan (young, handsome and very talented), it’s titled “LAWRENCE ANYWAYS” which is set in the 90’s and the synopsis is about a man who tries to salvage his relationship with his fiancée after revealing to her his aspirations of becoming a woman…

From the Offitial Selection I’m very excited for South Korean director IM Sang-Soo’s new film titled “Do-Nuit Mat (The Taste of Money)”. He got nominated for the Palm D’Or in 2010 with the film ‘The Housemaid’ one of my favorite films ever.

Below, a photo of myself (center) with friends in a very unusual position on the red carpet at Canne’s Grand Auditorium where the Festival is held. It was taken back in 2010 during a road trip through the South of France that we did. Fun, fun, fun in Cannes, Cannes, Cannes.

Dark Shadows is Tim Burton’s 17th feature film and I did enjoy it on the big screen on Sunday night at Shoreditch’s Richmix (one of my favorite cinemas in London I must say).
I don’t know the original series but it’s very recommendable, really loved to see Michelle Pfeiffer back and Eva Green who is the prettiest actress alive and of course, Johnny Depp, no need to comment on his many skills and taylor made-like roles by Burton.

Helena Bonham Carter has the funniest character, on a constant hangover, her facial expresions just make me laugh all the time. Brilliant as usual.
And last but not least, special mention to the costumes by Colleen Atwood (who won an Oscar for Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton as well).
Entirely filmed in England at the Pinewood Studios and on location in Knightsbridge, Devon, Colleen gives information about the clothes, accessories and fabrics sourced in London, as you can read in this interesting interview with the LA Times.

These are some portraits I took of my classmate Ana Minozzo the other day at a photography studio in London College of Fashion while we were trying the light for a photo shoot we had organized (of which I will talk more in depth soon).
I love all her facial expressions.

A couple of weeks ago I posted some pictures of my trip to Lanzarote, the protagonist of many of them were my new pair of jelly shoes that I bought over there. I used to wear them all the time as a child, and as I predicted, the jelly shoes are back.
This is my classmate Nóirín, who I caught wearing them at Urban Outfitters where she works and where you can buy them too.
